ERO Resources worked with the National Park Service Environmental Quality Division, Midwest Region, and Pea Ridge National Military Park (Pea Ridge) staff to prepare an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the park’s Vegetation Management Plan, with the goal of replicating the look and feel of the 1862 Battle of Pea Ridge battlefield landscape. The landscape of Pea Ridge has changed considerably since 1862, and the Vegetation Management Plan establishes methods to create and maintain patterns to maximize benefits to natural and cultural resources. Specifically, the plan supports restoration of native vegetation associated with tallgrass prairies, eastern deciduous forests, interior highlands, and Mississippi floodplain within Pea Ridge. The plan proactively targets exotic invasive species before threats of them spreading become severe. The EA provides treatment recommendations for cultural landscapes and preservation of historic structures affected by ground disturbances.
