On behalf of the Ignacio School District and the La Plata County Coroner’s Office, ERO completed the exhumation, analysis, and reburial of 21 individuals identified within a previously unknown historic cemetery. The 21 individuals were found to have been interred in a historically abandoned cemetery within the boundaries of the Southern Ute Indian Reservation. ERO used geophysical methods and mechanical excavation to identify unmarked graves. All individuals and associated funerary objects were subject to analysis before being reburied under the direction of the Southern Ute.
