Cultural Resource Intern – Fall 2024, Denver

Do you have a passion for Archaeology? Are you organized and detail-oriented?  If so, ERO is for you.  We are seeking a Cultural Resource Intern to assist in the 5DA3991 Rockshelter Excavation Project analysis phase.

Position Overview

Over the 2022 and 2023 field seasons, ERO has conducted archaeological excavations at a rockshelter (5DA3991) in Douglas County, Colorado.  The excavation recovered a dense assemblage of Indigenous archaeological materials from surface to bedrock.  ERO excavated 28 excavation units (EUs) and recovered more than 51,000 artifacts, including perishable materials and ceramics.  Radiocarbon assays have identified five temporal components: Middle Archaic; Early Ceramic; Middle Ceramic; Late Ceramic/Protohistoric Period; and Historic.

The internship will involve hands-on analysis of the rockshelter’s excavation results.  This opportunity will provide the intern with exposure to a variety of artifact and data analysis methods, direct experience with cultural resource management professionals, and practical knowledge of the reporting needs and standards for excavation of an archaeological site that is significant on local, state, and national levels.

Cultural Resource Interns assist in the processing of archaeological materials in ERO’s laboratory.  Interns are responsible for applying technical skills in archaeology to assist project managers and senior-level staff with all tasks related to analysis and reporting in the cultural resources department.  This is a laboratory-only position and is seasonal through the 2024 fall season as work on the project is available.  Employment may be extended beyond the project for additional lab or fieldwork opportunities if mutually agreeable.
